In a more health and wellness connected society, yoga is becoming a more well-known way to not only improve your mental and spiritual health. However, yoga can improve your physical health too. Yoga calls for holding complex poses for extended periods, meaning your muscles will get stronger and get more endurance over time. Endurance is important, especially if you want to protect your joints when doing more explosive movements. Flexibility is also a great plus of yoga, which can make your muscles more functional and toned across the full range of motion. Most importantly, you don’t need a ton of space or time to get in a good yoga session, Just get about a coffee table worth of space and you’re good to go.
So you may already be familiar with the basic exercises—squats, push-ups, and sit-ups were the staples of any elementary and middle school P.E class. And while those are still awesome exercises that you can do anywhere, did you know that you can make them even harder with resistance bands? Resistance bands allow you to take bodyweight exercises to the next level, without having to buy expensive dumbbells or workout machines. And they come in a huge variety that let you scale your way to ultimate strength and flexibility. Resistance bands can even be used as a warm up before you do your main workout, and you can find resistance band workouts all over the place if you do a little bit of research.
Cardio is one of the best ways to shed some pounds and get a more toned, healthy look. But people often don’t think they can get quality cardio if they don’t have a treadmill, stair machine, or a lot of open space to work with. This is simply not true, because there’s a type of cardio called HIIT that can be done anytime, and anywhere. HIIT stands for high intensity interval training, which simply means that you exert near-maximum energy for short bursts of time, then rest and repeat. HIIT training has become wildly popular, and that’s mainly because of how the workout is structured. The human body sees the most change and benefit when it is at near-max effort, but normal people cannot sustain this for long periods. 20 seconds of intense high knees or burpees will definitely have you drenched, and then you’ll take 10 to 15 seconds to get your breath and get ready for the next set.
